Huge thanks to BBC Children in Need

Huge thanks to BBC Children in Need

UCL Hospitals Charitable Foundation is delighted to have been awarded a grant from BBC Children in Need to fund an Activity Co-ordinator position on the Young Person's Unit for a period of three years.

The Young Person's Unit/T12 South at University College Hospital sees in excess of 700 patients a year.

Thanks to the generous support of BBC Children in Need, this Activity Co-ordinator position will enable us to make a vital difference to the young people on the Unit.

Activity Co-ordinators work directly with patients to reduce the fear, anxiety and stress that repeated hospitalisation and invasive medical treatments can cause.  This specialist support is proven to speed up recovery times and reduce time spent in hospital.

Fiona Eva (pictured right) started in her new role as Activity Co-ordinator on the 29th January 2018 and is learning a lot and really enjoying her time on the Young Person's Unit. Having Fiona in post is already enabling additional specialist support to be provided to young patients and their families, making a real and lasting difference to both their short and long-term care. We look forward to catching up properly with Fiona once she's had a chance to settle in, and in the meantime would like to extend our huge thanks to BBC Children in Need, whom we are very much looking forward to working closely with over the coming months.
